Kim Gauthier resides in Leesburg Virginia with her husband, Chris and 3 children, Ava, Austin and Keaton. She works as a Field Reimbursement Executive at UCB, Inc.. Kim spends much of her time on the soccer field where her 2 oldest children play travel soccer. She loves to bake, run, hike and spend time with her family.
Kim felt compelled to join the 2023 Visionary of the Year Campaign to honor her brother, Kevin. Kevin was a brother, but also one of Kim’s best friends. Kevin was diagnosed with AML at the age of 26. After chemotherapy, total body radiation and 2 stem cell transplants, Kevin passed away soon after his 31st birthday when this invasive cancer travelled to his brain and took his life. Kevin dreamed of winning the fight against AML so he could have a family of his own. He fought the most difficult fight until the very end.
Years later, in 2019, Kim’s 1st grade daughter’s friend, Ella, relapsed with AML and had to spend her 1st grade year in the hospital. Witnessing Ella’s journey and the heartache her parents had to endure took Kim back to the years when her family was undergoing this battle with her brother. She knew that there was so much more that needed to be done to help the many families and patients battling leukemia and to ultimately find a cure.
Every three minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer and every nine minutes someone loses that battle. It’s hard to find someone who has not been impacted by this terrible disease. But there is hope – since 2017, the FDA has approved an unprecedented 51 blood cancer treatments and LLS has helped advance 85% of them!
Since 2017, LLS helped advance more than 75% of FDA-approved blood cancer treatment options. Most recently, a treatment was approved for adults with acute myeloid leukemia, the same cancer that my brother Kevin had. Our vision and investment in research to help #FightBloodCancer is paying off…but we still need your help!! Your donation is bringing the promise of cancer cures to more patients and their families.
With your support, LLS can continue funding critical research as well as providing outstanding patient services. Here is an example of the power of your fully tax-deductible donation:
$1,000 Helps fund one day of nurses providing patients and caregivers with clinical trial search navigation and support through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Clinical Trial Support Center.
$500 Provides a one-year stipend for a patient to use for co-pays or treatment transportation.
$200 Helps fund general lab supplies for one week, allowing researchers funded by LLS to conduct critical blood cancer research
$100 Helps fund the training of Patti Robinson Kaufmann First Connection Program volunteers, who provide peer support to patients and their families around the country.
$50 Helps fund educational booklets for healthcare providers and their patients.
